Wow, John, sounds just awesome! Love that woody old-timey tone!

John,
I'm not much of a blues fan, but your guitar sounds awesome! I've got a parlor that needs a new top and this has convinced me to try ladder bracing. If you don't mind, I may bug you for measurements and advice later this winter.
Very, very nice! got any shots of the bracing?
Pretty simple stuff really, The braces are 1/2' wide and 1/2' tall and tapered from full width to about 1/8" at the top. They are also tapered for the last 2 1/2" at the ends. The top is actually flat, which makes building this guy a little easier and more fun. Actually the original didn't have the popcycle brace but I thought it needed something there and I wanted to keep the weight to a minimum and so didn't want an extension block.

Thanks for the info, John. What is the bridge plate? Looks like spruce, but I'd imagine that the ball ends would really dig into that.

Yes the bridge plate is spruce as were the old ones. I most times glue on a small hardwood patch in the area of the string balls. I have used carbon fiber for this as well as various hardwoods. My latest batch uses "Snakewood" for some additional "mojo".

I shouldn't really be telling you this. On my bridge plates, no matter what they're made of I add a small bone plate with holes in it for the ball ends of the strings to pull against. This does not need to be permanently fixed to the plate if you don't want but can simply be held in place by the strings. (Leave the centre strings on, until the new Es have been fitted, when changing strings).

Then, the string is then on a bone nut, bone saddle and bone 'bridge plate'. Try it and see the difference that it makes. If you don't like it simply take it out.

Colin

See this is the sort of high end stuff that you're probably not ready for.

Thanks for sharing your secret, Colin. I was hoping to find the trick that would catapult my guitars to world class status and avoid that whole tedious experience thing. BTW, is that little piece of bone scalloped or parabolic?

John, On a serious note, How thick do you make the spruce plate? It doesn't look very thick in the pic.
Thanks.
